What Do We Do Now? Business Development post COVID-19

Fall is upon us, we're roughly ten months into a global pandemic, and the level of uncertainty at hand is palpable. It feels like we are all in a constant state of reaction. I'm reminded of a quote from Jack Nicholson in The Departed - "I don't wanna be a product of my environment, I want my environment to be a product of me." Me too. So how do we make that happen?

Zoom calls have become a part of daily life. Virtual meetings have replaced boardrooms and luncheons. But these aren't necessarily negatives. Tools like Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet that allow for us to connect virtually have given people the ability to be present without the time or expense of travel. Every challenge we face comes with opportunity, and the COVID-19 pandemic has created opportunities everywhere. Companies that are nimble and creative will continue to thrive regardless of the obstacles they face. That's the key. Resist being stuck in mindsets that existed prior to the pandemic, they only hinder your ability to adapt.

COVID-19 has given all of us the opportunity to evolve, people and businesses alike. Everyone knows what we can't do because of the pandemic, there's no value focusing there. What doors have been opened? For one, the expectation of meeting virtually rather than in-person is an opportunity to expand into markets outside your local area. Don't be afraid to pick up the phone. Human connection is more important today than ever before. Find ways to stay connected to your clients and your market.
